A lot of people might be wondering how to get more viewers for their video. In today’s podcast, Nate will teach us how to promote your YouTube videos to get more views.

Everyone wants to know how to promote your YouTube videos to get more views. I have some great advice on that. I know exactly how to do it but it might be different than what you’re thinking so let’s stick around. -So, Nate. You spend a lot of time making YouTube videos. You’ve put a lot of energy and effort into them and obviously you want to get more views on those videos. I’m curious, I’ve got a few questions about what do you do outside of YouTube or beyond just having the organic traction that that video is getting to get more views? So, are there other places that you promote your videos outside of YouTube? -It’s a very good question. I get asked that very rigorous. Every week, somebody’s asking me that. And the truth is all the results that we’ve gotten are organic. And there’s 2 main ways that I use to go organic. And I know that there are other things that we can do and I’ll and all… When you have a brand new channel and you’re launching a video for the first time, there are things that you can do but nothing that really gets thousands of views. So for example, I posted a video a couple days ago. It was my epic cereal video. -Yeah. -And there’s a few people that I wanted to get their attention. I sent them a direct message so that they would get the link. But that’s just one person. -Sure. -So, there’s some things that you can do. If you’ve got an email list, you can email them out. But if you’re posting daily videos, you might not want to send a daily email about every single video. You can post to Facebook. But guess what happens there. Facebook will see that people are leaving and going to YouTube and so they’ll bury your post. All social media platforms are doing that. They’re kind of at war with each other. They don’t want traffic to leave and go somewhere else. You can’t really share things on social media very well. There’s a lot… I mean you can go to Fiverr. And pay for views or pay for subscribers. You just gotta be really careful with that because a lot of it’s robots that are that are doing… Machines or programs and that algorithm is really smart. The algorithm knows if it’s getting real engagement like how much watch time. Is that a real profile that’s watching this video. Is that a video that this person would really be interested in. If they watched knitting and cat leaves all day long and also now they’re really interested in real estate investing. It’s like, how real is this? So, YouTube is really really smart of gauging where these this traffic is coming from. And so, while I’m very open and I’m very interested of really how to jump start a video and I am experimenting, I haven’t found anything that really works well. The good news is though, the organic is enough. It just takes time. The 2 advantage… We talked a lot about keyword research, the reason that I talk so much about that is because YouTube’s search engine is so good. -Yeah. -It’s so good. You can find anything that you want. If I just slightly describe a video to you. Like, “Oh, there’s this video it’s got this cat. He’s wearing a blue sweater.” That’s probably enough to find the video that I’m talking about and you can find it for years and years and years. And if I have an expertise and people all around the world are asking questions that I know how to answer. All I have to do is make videos that answer people’s questions and I put them on YouTube and they start to get traffic. Now, its gradual. -Sure. -But it… But it starts to build and I just keep answering people’s questions. It’s a simplest strategy that I know to build a following of people who want to buy what you offer. It is so powerful. -Now, what do you think about putting webs are putting videos on your website? Is that a good thing to do? Does it make a difference? -So, this might be a controversial answer. -Okay. -I used to own a web design company. I think around 600 websites are what we designed. We used WordPress and Joomla to design these websites. I don’t believe companies really need websites in that sense where you’ve got a home page, you’ve got an about me page, you’ve got a products page, you’ve got…. Websites are different. What you need today is a sales funnel. So, on a sales funnel, you definitely need videos but they’re different type of videos that are going to go daily on your YouTube channel. On your YouTube channel, you’re making educational videos. You’re pulling in people who’ve never heard of you before. This is their first exposure to you. Then when they go to get your free gift or whatnot, they enter your sales funnel, that’s your promotional stuff. So, the videos that go on your website are now I’m calling your sales funnel. Those are your promo videos. Those are the commercials. They’re much shorter. There’s music involved. There’s much more strategy and emotion put into it. So you’re really selling the benefits of your services or of your product or of your… Of your book. People… Even though I say that, people like, “Well, yeah. But what about a blog? Blogs are important. Can’t you just put your video there and maybe transcribe it?” And the answer is yes. That’s actually how this whole strategy started is I had an SEO service and I would create the videos that answer people’s questions. We put that on the webpage. We transcribe it so we had content for that page. Make it look pretty. We create infographics, we put them on Pinterest and connect them with keywords. We would do article marketing so we’d write articles that would link back to the page on that topic. We do other types of link building. And these pages got ranked on Google. But then, I discovered that the video itself on YouTube got 50 times more views than the page ranking on the front of Google. -Wow. -And so, all that effort I just thought, “You know, I want to simplify things. I just want to focus on where the best results come from. So, that’s why I just kind of set aside that I’m not really worried about that. So yes, you can’t create a blog and you can put those there. But the results I’m getting on YouTube are so much better. Now, here’s where I might take a step back because I’m stepping into the the podcast space. And there is not a YouTube of the podcast space. Like where YouTube is for video, iTunes is not that yet. The place where people consume podcasts the most is on iTunes but it’s not a very good search engine. It’s not a really good marketing tool. You don’t really grow because of iTunes so much. I mean they have… They’re trending in different categories but it’s not like what YouTube is. And so, some experimenting that I’ve done has found that podcasts are ranking on Google. But so far the experiments I’ve seen have not led to the person’s individual website where they’re featuring their podcast. There’s so many websites out there that are big and that RT ranked on Google. They have good ranking and they pull in the RSS feed for the podcast. So, it’s still up in the air and I’m kind of debating. Do I want to go back and start creating those pages. Again, that feature the podcast. Right now plugins are easy and that’s the route I am going. I’ve instructed my team to just… Just set it up so it’s automatic but I’m not really putting a lot of attention into it. So, I mentioned there are 2 main advantages to YouTube and that’s why organic is enough. The first one is the search. -Yeah. -The second one is YouTube will actually promote you. And that’s eventually they will promote you. -Okay. -So, when you get consistent enough and I talked more about this in detail on other episodes. But once you’re consistent for 4 months, that’s when YouTube will promote you. And when I say promote you, it’s big time and you don’t have to pay for it. In fact, YouTube pays you through their partner program. -Okay. -And I go into more detail on this another and many other episodes but through their partner program, through that ad share… The ad revenue share program, all you have to do is make a video that will make YouTube money and then YouTube will promote it. Because it’s making them money but yet it’s it’s my video or it’s your video that they’re promoting and so you get more and more leads, you get more and more traffic. So that’s… That’s amazing marketing. I mean I’m talking about millions of views. Like how much would I have to pay to get five million views on a video. -Right. -Yet, I knew that there was a topic of video that YouTube would like so we created this video and we just put it on YouTube. And they started promoting it and over the last year, it’s got 5 million views. -Wow. -That’s awesome. -So, that’s why I haven’t really… -Well, we are tinkering and we’ve tried lots of different things to kind boost videos and whatnot. I’m not too stressed about it because the organic strategy works so well. -Wow. So now, when you have a newer Channel, do you need to do some more promotion outside of that channel or do you really just let the organic kind of take over? -I have seen one channel that just didn’t get any traction. And as I… Because we were following the same strategy and I wanted to break it down. Why did his channel not spike at 4 months. in fact, it hasn’t spiked after 7 months. You know? Why is that? And there’s a couple of reasons. He’s got a lower average… Average view duration. His content doesn’t keep people around as long as YouTube would like. So that’s one reason. We’re trying to find ways to help him be more exciting in his videos or… We’re talking to him about strategy. The other thing that he has not done is he hasn’t… He doesn’t really tell people about the channel. He doesn’t talk about it. He’s not on social media. So well… Well, you we can’t really promote YouTube videos from Facebook as an example. When you’re on Facebook naturally talking to that audience in that format, you can mention, “Yeah, I was creating… We filmed 20 episodes yesterday.” And just by mentioning that… So, he doesn’t do anything like that. People don’t know. So people that know him, that love him, that are his clients or that that follow him, he never shares with them as YouTube videos. And all you really need… Because our strategy works so well. All you need is just a person or 2 for Google to take notice and you need your content to be engaging. So, I hope that was helpful to you. I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for. Because it’s I get to ask that a lot. And that’s not the answer they want. It’s like, “Well, what can I do to just promote it?” But it’s like my strategy works so well organically that you don’t have to stress about it. Really. You just have to be patient. I was asked this yesterday actually. Friend of mine named John. That’s his real name. -Yeah. -He says, you know, we’ve been going at some Street for a few months and he’s asked me this question before but he asked me again. You know, “What can I do to get my videos of boost?” I’m like, “I don’t know. If you find something, well let me know. Just be patient. The organic strategy works.” And what’s funny is he’s just coming off of a spike. He had a really good spike, brought in a whole bunch of new subscribers but he’s still wanting to get… He wants to grow even faster. -Sure. patience. -Yeah. Patience. -Be patient. Alright. -Alright. So definitely check out Valerie’s book, We’re All Ears. You can find that on Amazon. And of course, I’m going to share my keyword research guide. So click the link below you can get access to that.
