Welcome back. So in this video, we’re going to talk about how YouTubers become public speakers. Krista Casey is here. We’re doing a whole series of videos to show you how to launch a YouTube channel. We’re launching your channel. One of Krista’s goals is becoming a public speaker. There’s actually a lot of people who do that because of YouTube. So, we’re going to talk about that in that in this episode. Okay off camera, you ask the question maybe just yourself. “I don’t know if I should start with speaking first or if I should write my book first.” and then we also talked about… I asked the question do you want to be a keynote speaker where people will pay you 10 grand or 25 grand to come and speak for an hour. Or do you want to… Yeah, I mean the other alternative is to speak for free but sell books from that or… I mean, what would have been your thoughts? -I almost feel like I would do both. So, I’m not sure how to determine what that end goal really is. Is it something I can figure out as I go? -Certainly. Why… Why do you think speaking is on your radar? Or why is speaking on your radar? -Yeah, I think because I do it so often one on one and I have individuals who I used to speak with and really enjoy the impact that I can have. And to do that with a broader audience would be wonderful. I would feel more fulfilled and more impactful. -Okay, like because of the numbers? Helping more people at a time? Like any… So, I like that. I think that makes a lot of sense. As I’ve stepped into this public speaking space, it’s really rewarding. I’ve spoken on… I spoke on a big stage in an event called pod fest. I was… I thought I was doing a breakout session. I was on the stage and I just like… I was really nervous but few minutes before I got on the stage, I just focused on the people in the audience. And I knew… Because they were there my audience. There like people that I knew I could really help. And so I was just excited. I’m going to teach these people and it’s got myself in the zone. And I… It is really fulfilling. You mentioned that word fulfilling. Really excited for that. Okay, so let’s… Let’s just set aside that conversation for a moment with the understanding that –sure, there’s a lot of ways that you can do it I don’t think you have to have a perfect answer yet. Let’s talk about it from a YouTube standpoint. Because there’s… The YouTube is a world where some interesting things have happened. See, I’ve I’m in a few different worlds. I’m in the speaker world. I’m a part of the National Speakers Association. Been a part of that group for 6 or 7 years and I’m a part of the entrepreneur world. I’ve been an entrepreneur for many, many years associate with a lot of other businesses and entrepreneurs. The speaker world is very entrepreneurial. I’m also a part of the YouTube world and associate with a lot of YouTubers. And there’s a big divide a lot of YouTubers started YouTube as a hobby. They started it out of interest or of a passion for something else. They had a… They had a job or a career that was making their living. And they started making YouTube videos. Eventually, they started making enough money from YouTube sometimes on accident that they thought, “Oh, this could be my business.” And so they kind of started shifting their focus. And a lot of YouTubers are now speakers. Because they now have success and people want to know how they’ve achieved it. So, Dan Markham, he’s from a channel called “What’s inside?” Great, great guy. Fun Channel. He gets us to speak all over the place. Or grant Thompson from the King of Random. And he gets asked to speak a lot. Or a channel that I studied a lot. He’s a science guy, Derek Muller. His channels Veritasium. He gets asked to speak all over both on YouTube and on science. He’s in a lot of documentaries now. Because YouTube really gave him that platform. There’s a lot of people who have built such big followings on YouTube that they get acting roles or they get TV appearances in PR because they built that tribe in that following. So, it’s pretty cool that when you ask the questions, “Should I start my book? Or should I start public speaking?” YouTube gives us another option. You can start to build a following and you’re kind of a speaker to it, to an extent. We’re talking to the camera. In this case, we’re talking to each other on camera. But in most of the videos that were going to be filming, you’re just going looking right at that lens and talking. And so you’re speaking to one person. But yet, how many persons are there? There’s that one person and then another one and another one. Thousands and millions of people are going to be watching your videos. I see it’s all motion there. -It’s exciting to think about having that kind of impact and so easily. You know, you can’t invite that many people into your home. But if you’re in your home with one camera. And I can do that. I can speak one-on-one to a camera. And that feels a lot less intimidating. I want to say them speaking to a crowd right now. But to have that kind of impact, it’s beautiful. -It’s amazing. My friend Paul Jenkins is coming to mind. Some of the first experiences he had of seeing this impact. One was a lady in India watched one of his parenting videos. And she said in her comments that “I was struggling with my son and I watched one of your videos and I tried what you suggested and it worked. Thank you. I feel like a better mom.” And that touched Paul so much. It’s like, “Wow, I just helped out a mom in India.” He made a video on how to help a friend who’s suicidal. And he we published that video. And you can imagine some of the responses for people that have searched and found that video. He actually… He’s that he’s a professional psychologist and he talked somebody down. -Didn’t feel he’s changing lives every day. -Yeah. -And you’ve got… You’ve got people that are coming to you with with these questions and challenges in their life. And that’s… That’s what these videos are going to be able to do. So, it’s kind of an interesting twist that this conversation is taken because we started talking about how YouTube can help you become a public speaker, but yet on YouTube, you’re able to speak and you have a voice and you have a big audience. So this is… This is part of fulfilling that goal right there. -Absolutely. -So, I hope you enjoyed this episode. This was actually a bonus. We weren’t planning on this. But I thought it was a really important conversation to have. In the next episode, we’re going to be going deep into your topics. And doing a topic brainstorm. I really, really look forward to that. So, be sure to subscribe and we’ll see you tomorrow.
