With the rise of the Internet, outsourcing became so much easier. You don’t have to have a physical office to run your business anymore, and can practically hire anyone from all around the world. In this episode, Nate Woodbury will be talking about why he hires employees exclusively in the Philippines. Tune in to learn why it may benefit you as well.
Many of you know that I have wonderful team members in the Philippines. I hire only in the Philippines. And why is that? I’m going to give you a lot of reasons why I do that. Nice. Alright, let’s talk about the reasons why Nate Woodbury, “Be the hero”, Nate. I’m Scott Christopher, I’m not Nate. That’s Nate. That’s that’s Scott. You can see my channel. I’m going to do this every time. Click up here and see. Don’t click now but eventually watch my thing. There’s good stuff over there. So, we’ve done this topic before and we’ve gotten a lot of great response from it. So, we thought we’d revisit the topic again. But cover some new reasons I really build a… Because nobody wants to watch another version of the same video. They want to know some additional things. So, let’s go baby. What do you got? So, we’ve talked about the low cost, okay? But I also want to talk about the low overhead. And that doesn’t necessarily apply to the Philippines. But it’s it’s really just for outsourcing. I don’t have to pay for office space. I don’t have to pay for equipment or pay for utilities. So, it’s kind of a neat unique setup that I could build a company and grow a team by hiring somebody outside of the country. I don’t have to deduct taxes and worry about that. I don’t have to pay for insurance or worry about their 401k’s. I just pay them. And they individually didn’t that… So, they don’t even get together as a team, right? I mean they just work out of their own space whatever they want. The park, the school, the library, their homes. Oh, see we didn’t talk about that before. Yeah, you’re right there is no central location. It’s not the Nate Woodbury home for gifted Filipinos. And you’ve got some building over there where they’re all sitting in their networks together. Yeah, they all work from their own home. And it’s a finer point I like that. What else. What I’m able to do by outsourcing to a place like the Philippines where there their cost of living is so low and the money requirements that they ask are so low compared to other places around the world. Especially United States is it allows me to do some things in business that I would never be able to do. I mean, I can offer services for a small fraction of the cost of what my competitors do and still keep a high profit margin. So, it changes the whole dynamic. I mean we see this every day. You think that that sounds unfair but yet we do utilize it every day. When you go and buy any product off the shelf whether it’s at Walmart or your, I don’t like Walmart anymore but Costco or anywhere, it’s it’s been manufactured overseas because it’s a lower cost. Because it’s cheaper for them to manufacture.
Yeah. So, we live like kings today because of outsourcing. Yeah. Well what this does for small businesses and what this actually does for America’s small business owners is so huge. That the services that I offer are normally like services that you’d have to the only big businesses or really moo-coo wealthy people could afford. But I’ve been able to make these type services available for small business owners that are then able to promote and grow their businesses. It’s just really making the opportunity of small business flourish. Now, for those of you that didn’t watch the other video. So, this is the first time you’re seeing “Why I outsourced to the Philippines?” Let’s be clear. Specifically what you’re outsourcing very quickly to these people in the Philippines is exactly what they’re watching right now, basically right? I’ve got a team of editors. Video editors. I’ve got people who transcribe. I’ve got graphics designers. I’ve had web designers and programmers in the past. We just don’t offer those services anymore. The cost of… And I’ve got writers and then there’s… There’s a lot of us. I’ve got a book keeper. What they’re watching right now is the end result of your team’s work. So I mean, they put it on… They put it together. They they take all the audio tracks from everywhere, all the things, edited, put it together, add the words that come up on the screen. They put that on. Words… Anyway, they do all of that and they do the search engine jazz, the terms, the thumbnail, they publish it. So, everything from one end to the other is done by them, right? Right. What there seeing right now. Except to us. Which we’re really, really hard to replicate. Yeah, that’s one thing that’s hard to do from a distance is to reach over here and hit the record button on my camera. Well, that’s true he… We’ve got 3 cameras rolling and all these lights and sound. And it’s all Nate. I just sit here and and sipped my green water. So, that was the recap of what they’re actually doing for you overseas. So, let me paint a picture in your mind. You’ve got a business. okay, Scott’s got a business and he is ready to hire his first employee. I got to go Filipino. Okay. Don’t worry about. This employee is really talented. They’re really, really talented. They have tons of skills. Okay, yes. They’re going to cost you $4,000 a month but they can do a whole bunch. Plus all the benefits I got to pay for them though, too, right? That’s true. In this country… There’s a lot of overhead for this one talented person. Okay, I got you. But they are going to lift such a weight off of your shoulders that man, is it going to be worth it? They’re going to take so much, so many tasks off your shoulder. I see it now. But my eyes are closed. Okay. Same example but different in outcome. I hire you 10 employees for the same dollar amount. $400 a month for each person in the Philippines. And they’re all the same as you’ve just painted? So, instead of one person like being a master of everything, right? You can take one task and give it to one person and they’re dedicating 8 hours a day to that one task doing it to perfection. Then the next person you’re assigning another task and they’re doing it to perfection. You’re finding 8 or 8 or 10 different people with specialized skill sets for the same dollar amount, your business is going to be way more efficient. Obviously, you’re going to be a lot more productive, getting a lot more done because it’s 8 or 10 people versus one guy or one girl. No kidding. And I don’t have to pay any benefits that we talked about. I mean, because it’s a different laws, different country. I don’t have to do, you know, health insurance or… I mean, and there’s been a time I hired a receptionist here in Utah. But I hired them as an independent contractor. Because I didn’t want to have to worry about those benefits, the 401-k or the insurance. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, even hiring people here, yeah. Those benefits, I want to avoid the headache but withdrawing taxes. I want them to just take care of their own taxes. I’ll pay them 1099. You know somebody’s going to comment on that. Do it. It’s like. Yeah. I paid them 1099, they take care of their taxes. They’re independent contractors. Uhm. And that’s that’s a huge advantage of hiring people in the in the Philippines. Now, they’re on the other side of the planet which is kind of cool because it means that when I finished my work day there’s begins, there’s begins. Pretty much. Yeah. So, I can think of a lot of different things or tasks, you know, that that I’ve thought of or that I’m doing that I need to pass on. When I start my work day the next morning, the tasks are already done. Because they’ve been working well when I was sleeping. They’re the elves, yeah yeah. To do them to make the toys while Santa, literally rests with his red beard. So, that wouldn’t work if the Philippines were in the same time zone. But it just so happens that they’re on the other side of the planet. That’s a nice little bonus. And so, it kind of works out great why the Philippines.
I told this story the other day and it got me emotional. I’m not going to fake emotion here, though. Thank you. I can provide a dream job for people in the Philippines. I can’t remember her name. She, it was… She left me several years ago because she became a full-time mom. But she had worked for me for about 18 months, I believe. And I was paying her $400 a month. She did great work for me. I just thought of her name, but I’m going to keep it right. We’ll call her “Patty.” So, Patty, she sent me a message. Sorry. It’s just such a relevant common everyday name. He’s like born in 1931. We’ll call her Heloise. Alright, sorry, keep going. Alright. Alright. Sorry Patty. She doesn’t know because that’s not her name. She wrote me a message that really touched me. Alright She said, “Thank you so much for giving me this job for the past year and a half.” It’s really meant a lot to me and my family. I’m a mom now. We’ve been able we’ve been able to buy a house on top of a hill. So that we don’t have to have our house flip when it rains.” Oh, that’s awesome. Yeah. Thank you so much. And you know, That’s one that’s really stood out in my mind. But I get I get feedback and comments like that all the time. Because it’s, “Yeah, I benefit in a huge huge way. It is it’s so amazing to get such quality work and to pay such a low comparative cost.” You know, to pay 4 or 5 or 600 dollars a month, yeah. And yet to know that it’s benefiting them so much. And to know that I’m helping that I’m providing a livelihood for now 9 people. Let me ask you this. Have you ever had any of them, be honest, to come to you and go, “This isn’t fair pay for what we do. I definitely need to raise. This just isn’t enough. It’s it feels like you’re kind of, you know, it’s taking advantage of us and our system here. And our current economy. You’re just really living…” I mean, if any of them come to you with those complaints or with issues? Not once. So, I’ve been outsourcing for approaching nine years. And I’ve never had a complaint. So, those people that might write comments that go, you know, “You’re a modern-day slave driver. You’re availing yourself and taking advantage of these poor people.” Remember, you’re commenting on their behalf. And they’re the ones that are calling and saying, “Thank you. We have a house on a hill so we don’t get flooded. Thank you this is more money than I ever thought I would have made anyway. Thank you this puts me in a different a bracket.” I’m thinking of 2 of my team members right now. That in the past several months have asked me for raises. But they’ve been working for me for many years. And on, I wasn’t able to give him a raise right at that moment but just in the last month, I gave him a raise. But it was a very, it’s like you don’t have to give me one but I-just-thought-I’d ask type. They were like. It wasn’t a complaint. It’s like, “I love this job, this is a great blessing. I want to keep working it for a long time. If you can’t do it, I understand.” Yeah. But they did, they asked for a raise. Really politely. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Both financially and otherwise. Everyone is happy. And there’s just, yeah. I mean, you’re paying fair to better than fair market wages. It’s you don’t have to feel bad. You know what I mean? Or justify “Well we’re only paying them.” Well, you know. The virtual assistant tool that I’ve talked about in other videos. Where I go to find my people in the Philippines. They bid. They put what amount which they are hoping to get. Yes. And and a lot of times, you’ll find people that are saying, “I’m hoping for $250 a month.” And you’re just like “Whoah! You know.” Yeah. You know, the cost of living, the standard of living and what their needs are. You know, and some people are asking more. Some people might be asking for $700 a month. But that’s usually their upper limit, right. And so, if you can say, “Well what I’m looking for is right about here.” They’ll say yes or no. So, you got to live. And as people have mentioned in comments that I’ve seen. And also, just my interactions with Filipinos is they really are a kind, hard-working, loyal. They’re just good. I’ve known many Filipinos in my lifetime. From having lived in Spain for a number of years. There’s a lot of Filipinos there. Here in the States there’s a lot of Filipinos. I’ve worked with one at least once a week. Who is just the nicest man I have ever met. And so, when we’re talking about the general message here of why the Philippines as opposed to where else? Indonesia, China. Yeah, There’s a lot people outsource to India. There it is. These are one of some reasons. So, when are in our other video, will link to it right there. We talked a lot more about specifics why India compared to other countries. Which there is a lot of good reasons. It’s more than, I mean the people in the Philippines are really, really good people but there are there are some specifics. So, maybe that’s a plug if they want to watch the other video, too. But if you found this one helpful, definitely give it a thumbs up. Subscribe and we’ll see you tomorrow.
