Welcome back. I’m here with Krista Casey again. We’re launching her YouTube channel. And in this video, we’re talking specifically about why YouTube? Why are we going through all this effort to produce a YouTube channel as compared to making videos for Facebook or doing an Instagram campaign? You know, why is YouTube the focus? And there’s a big reason why. Okay, YouTube. I want to talk about all the other platforms first and save YouTube for the end because YouTube has 2 huge advantages over all the other platforms. But first of all, I just want to ask like what what social media platforms do you love to use? Oh, I’m on most of them to a very small extent. -So, I love to use this an interesting question. I feel like I’m just getting started and really being able to share my sole purpose and launch a channel of any sort. So, it’s been buried but I have experimented with Twitter with LinkedIn more just for business and and such purposes. Facebook just strictly personal. I do have a couple of Facebook pages that are business but I don’t do a whole lot with them. So, I’m really curious about the best avenues for different purposes. -Alright. I love what you said there. And that’s that’s very common that you’ve got your foot in the water and a lot of different platforms. And you you obviously want to succeed. You want to build a following but it’s like, “Where do I begin? Where do I start?” I love a result and I love using a platform to get a specific result. So, you mentioned Twitter. I’ve got a Twitter account and I’ve tried doing different things. Following different recommendations of people that have successful… Supposedly successful Twitter accounts. You know 300,000 followers or whatnot. But I don’t know how to get a result. And when I talk to a couple of my friends who have really… I mean, another friend of mine has the biggest Twitter following in Utah. -Really? -And yet when I talked to him about results, it’s…. It’s like he really can’t quantify. And obviously, there’s gotta be some results benefits that he’s getting from it but I like to be able to create a video and know exactly what the results that’s gonna get me. Like, if I’m gonna put something on Twitter, I could like to be able to track something. -Yeah, and it’s not monetized, is it? So, is there a way to make it? -Well, I mean I I see… Like somebody that I follow Elon Musk. You know, big names like that. It’s a communication tool. It’s kind of a tool for PR for celeb reason so I could see down the road as you are I are bigger names that might be a good place to send out a quick message or update or whatnot as a communication tool. But as a marketing piece, as lead generation, the type of results that I thought I can get on YouTube… Yeah, Twitter is a tough one. And so, I’m actually not gonna say a whole lot about Twitter because I’ve chosen to not focus on. I don’t know how to get results on Twitter. Have you used Instagram much? -I started that one as well. -Instagram is fun. -A lot of people I know make it really successful. So, when you… When you say they make it really successful, what a success look like for them? -I would say a lot of followers and they’re producing a lot of content. They have a lot of continual growth in that. So, whether it’s new content that they’re putting out and things that they’re creating… -So, do you know what results that content is getting for them? -I don’t. That’s a really good question. -There’s a lot of times we see because Instagram is all about beauty and image and just design and style. And there’s great images with they’re great they’re great memes or whatnot. And it’s fun to follow. -But by results… I assume by results you mean more than just followers then? Because there are plenty of people that I see being successful and for me that just means having a lot of followers. But what translates for… -Yeah, let me share actually a YouTube example of what I mean by results. So, have you heard of VidCon? -Yes. -A you big YouTube conference in… I don’t think these were conference. It’s more of a convention in California that they do each year. And it’s mainly for fans. So, people who are fans of YouTube will go and there’ll be all different types of stage performances and whatnot. Thousands and tens of thousands of people go to VidCon. I remember reading an article of a youtuber who at the time a performer. She’s a musician. See, at the time had 500,000 subscribers. I would call that a successful YouTube channel. She got on stage screaming fans. Just put on an amazing performance. She got off the stage and what she wrote about to the person who wrote this article is, “Yeah, that was great and that was fun but I don’t have any food in my fridge.” -Okay. -Half a million subscribers, screaming fans and yet she couldn’t make a living. -Interesting. -She was probably… Just she was probably making a couple few thousand dollars a month but not enough to actually thrive. Is she using YouTube to her best advantage? I would say no. So, you can be successful to a degree but if we actually look at what is success is that having followers or is it actually making an influence? Or is it bringing in leads for my business? Am i able to survive? I’m able to make a living with this? Because if no matter how much her fans love her. if she can’t thrive or survive or pay the bills, she’s not going to be able to continue. -So that image of success might be a little deceiving. -And that’s… A lot of times, we’ll have… I mean I’m not going to share his name because I don’t want to pick on him. He’s a great friend. He’s got a very successful business and he has a series of videos he puts out on YouTube. A weekly episode on Facebook. He puts out a new video every week on Facebook . And I look at its like, “What results is that getting him?” He’s got a very successful business and so he can afford to do it. It’s not hurting him. The one benefit I see is it’s nurturing his existing tribe. I’m like, “If he just tweaked a few things, he could be getting results. He could be growing his tribe with all this.” He’s putting a lot of professional hard work thought and time into creating these these videos. That it’s like… He doesn’t have a clear strategy. -Yeah. And it makes sense that if you’re putting the time and effort for it, whether or not you want that to be your primary moneymaker, you still want there to be some benefit of doing that. And it might just be so fulfilling. But for most of us, there’s going to need to be a return of some sort. -So, every platform has a formula to get a result. So, there was a guy named Garrett Key. He has… He started on Instagram and so his Instagram handle her name or whatever is the bucket list family. You may have heard of him. Real cool guy. Real cool family. I’ve met him a few times. He has a specific formula. He’s a travel journalist and he documents adventure. But he partners with companies and gets sponsorships. And so, Teva is one of his first sponsors. He wears Teva sandals and his shots a lot. -Yeah. -But he’ll.. He got sponsored by Disney. Disney said, “Hey, we will pay you to come to our resort in Florida and spend 30 days and 30 resorts.” So, they paid… He got his whole family got to stay at Disney World for 30 days and 30 different resorts. And all he had to do was take pictures and make a post about it each day on Instagram. So, he knows how to get results. He’s got a specific result. He’s making a living, he’s creating memories with his family. That’s how he’s leveraging Instagram. And he follows a specific formula as far as how we use his hashtags the comments that he makes. How he links back to different things. So, he’s got a real specific formula. -So, sounds really dreamy for most of us. I mean not just lucky. What you’re saying is he had a strategy that actually created that… -Oh, yeah. He had a very clear intention. Before he went on his first adventure, he went to an expo where there was a lot of exhibitors and he went around, “This is my plan on Instagram. Will you sponsor me?” And everyone said, “No, you don’t have any followers. That no you don’t have any followers yet.” He went to Teva. Teva said, “You know how many followers yet but we want to give you a chance. Have here’s some free sandals.” -Wonderful. So that’s why he’s stuck with it. Because they’re the first ones that believed in him. 6 months later, he was able to make a living. He had 6 months of savings and so he put that into his travels to really launch this thing. And after six months, he had enough sponsors that… So, he had… He had a strategy. He had a formula he knew what he was going to use Instagram for and the end result he needed to do to be able to continue. I’ve got another friend who is very successful on Facebook. She posts one new episode of her original episode every day on Facebook. It’s a one-minute long episode. And then she reposts and then she shares some of friends that will also post. She’s got a whole perfect formula. I believe now she’s making 7 figures a year. It’s been a while since I checked in but she was on target for that and she’s probably made it. So 7 figures a year just by doing that exact formula on Facebook. And I studied it. I picked her brain a lot because I wanted to see if it was a viable strategy for me to use Facebook. And I found out it doesn’t really match what I’m trying to do. But there’s a specific formula. And so, instead of you know having a hand in every different platform, know that what your end result is and know how you can use that platform to get results. So, can we talk about YouTube? -Yeah. And I have to just say really. This is very exciting because for a lot of people I think they think it’s luck of the draw. As I would if I hadn’t talked to you. And to know that there’s a little bit more science behind it. It says it’s possible. It’s not just you know, throw your and even hat and hope that you get drawn. -Yeah. well that’s the truth. If you just start filming a whole bunch of videos, you’re probably not going to succeed on YouTube. You’ve got to know what result you want. And then know the formula to get that result. So, I’m going to share the 2 main advantages that YouTube has. And the result that that gets is influence. You’ll be able to build a really big following of people that love you and that want to buy things from you. Okay? So, YouTube has some advantages for that. One is search. We’ve talked about search before and we don’t know we all use YouTube search. If you’ve seen a video in the past, you wanted to go find it again how hard would it be to find that video? -It depends. If the title of it I think maybe it’s really specific then it can be easier. But if I have looked for a while before for a video that I’ve seen in the past and not necessarily known the names of the words to find that exact one. And sometimes it’s really easy. -Okay. So let me ask you this: Have you have you done a search for a video like that that you saw that you know that you saw… That you know that you watch it on Facebook? So, have you ever tried to search for something that you saw on Facebook? -Yes, I have. -And how easy is that to find something? -I remember being very frustrated and disappointed in finding anything. And then I try to go through my friends and figure out who posted it and can’t find that either. -Go through your own history. -Yeah. -You spend hours digging digging and you rarely find anything on Facebook. -Have you ever wanted to know how to do something and done a YouTube search to find a tutorial? -Mm-hmm. -Does it work? -Every time. -Every time. And often times I found… Something you can’t find everything but there’s been somebody said, “Oh, there is this video. This guy. There’s this alligator. I can’t remember the name in the video. It was hilarious. You got to watch this video.” And I’m just making up this example that I’ll go in and I’ll do a search. I wonder if that’s it. I end up finding the video that somebody was describing to me. YouTube has got a really, really good search engine. And how this is so powerful for you is you have an expertise that people are searching for. They don’t know you yet, they don’t know you exist but they’re searching for your expertise. They’re asking questions. So, they go into Google or YouTube, they type in the question. And if you make a video that’s an answer to their question, then YouTube instantly puts your video in front of them. So, YouTube search is awesome. In a future episode in this series, we’re going to actually do keyword research and show you how to find those question. And we’re going to cover that in great depth and actually make some videos using that strategy. So, that’s that’s the first huge advantage. YouTube has a way better search engine than any other platform. The second advantage is YouTube’s partner program. Have you heard of that? -Yeah. -Have you heard of people getting paid money from YouTube? -Oh, absolutely. -So, to get paid money from YouTube, you joined their partner program and that money that you would get paid comes from advertisers. So, advertisers pay money to YouTube. YouTube actually pays you then 55% of that ad revenue because the ads were paired next to your videos. -That’s the percentage. -That is. That’s a very, very ingenious thing that YouTube did. No other platform can compete. Facebook has tried to incorporate something like that. But for Facebook, just give up 55% of their ad room and give it away to creators is like that’s never going to happen. So, YouTube has a real big advantage. But that’s not the biggest benefit of the partner program. Anytime anyone talks about the partner program. That’s what they focus on is, “Oh, yeah. I could partner with YouTube and I can get paid revenue.” The reality is is is you can make money. I personally make five figures monthly from YouTube ad revenue. But that’s a small benefit compared to the one I’m going to describe now. Here’s what’s cool. If I make a video that makes YouTube money, YouTube pull promote that video to new audiences. -Wonderful without you doing a thing. -Right. -So, all I have to do is make good content that will make YouTube money and they’ll promote that. And I’ll give you a real example, okay? A year ago… That’s why I have a year of stats on this video. A year ago I launched a video that I had the plan. I thought YouTube would really like it and they did. In that in the last year, it’s made YouTube about $150,000 which in turn has made me a little bit more than $150,000. But that same video is brought in my client thousands and tens of thousands of leads. That one videos got about 5 million views. And those leads have translated into a few million dollars. -So, second version rate that actually makes the difference. -Yeah. So, $150,000… Don’t get me wrong. That’s awesome. You know 5 million views. But to think that that added hundreds of thousands of subscribers to our channel because YouTube promoted that. And it brought in tens of thousands of leads which resulted in millions of dollars of sales. -Fabulous. -That is what YouTube has that no other platform has no other platform. Can even compete with YouTube’s partner program. -That’s exciting. -So, we could talk about LinkedIn and maybe we will in another episode. We could talk about podcasts because there’s great opportunity in podcasting. We could even talk about Quora. Have you heard of Quora? -Oh, yes. -Okay, Quora I think has a lot of potential in the future. And with a specific formula of getting great results but still above all these other platforms, YouTube is my main focus because I believe that it is the most powerful one for getting the result of building and influence. When you have a type of a business like a coach a speaker an author a mentor, you have expertise that you want to share. I believe YouTube is the best platform for you to grow your business and to really impact an influence the world. So, be sure to subscribe and you heard me talk about keyword research in this episode. I have a keyword research guide that I’ve put together and it takes you step-by-step on how to do that.
